About the ‘Grow Your Perfect Business’ series
Welcome to the the Grow your Perfect Business Series from The Site Shed.
This series has been methodically planned to help you through the various stages of business in an order at which (in my experience) they are likely to be relevant.
The whole idea is to leave you with a solid roadmap that you can customise to your business accordingly.
Why? You may ask…
Well quite frankly, in my years of running businesses and speaking with hundreds of amazing business owners, there is one thing that I’ve picked up on that is consistent across the board.
No matter how big or small the business, no one has all of the answers.
Now don’t for a second think that I do…
What I’m trying to communicate is that there is a lot of moving parts to a successful business and getting clarity around them will 100% serve you at some point.
Albeit, perhaps not all at once.
However at some stage, you’ll likely need to address one of the topics that we cover in this series. So hopefully, when that (inevitably) happens, you’ll have a basic understanding of what’s going on.
We’ll be covering a large number of topics, many of which are well and truly ‘above my pay grade’. So as always, I’ve recruited the expertise of specialised collaborators that can shed some light on their area of expertise.
As mentioned already, I don’t have all the answers and I’ve created this framework off my own experiences.
If you have feedback, suggestions, criticism, or praise, please let us know, so we can take it into consideration.

About this ‘Planning For Success’ episode
Let’s start with a classic cliché. ‘Failing to plan, is planning to fail’…
Okay, now we have that out of the way, we can talk about why I’ve kicked off this series with the topic of ‘Planning For Success’.
Good things rarely happen by chance. Sure occasionally they may, however for the better part a successful outcome is normally the result of a successful strategy.
Often instances that might seem like a lucky encounter on the surface are more often than not, the result of a well executed plan.
There’s nothing more offensive than someone telling you that ‘you’re lucky to be where you are’, or that you ‘were in the right place at the right time’, in relation to a success that you may have achieved.
If only people really understood the hard work that goes into getting that result from behind the scenes.
Take The Site Shed podcast for example. After 5 days of being live, we managed to hit iTunes’ new and noteworthy category, which was a 5 week goal.
Did that happen by chance? Not at all. Does it look like luck on the surface…absolutely.
What most will fail to see is the detailed strategy that got us there.
Months of planning and research. Hours and hours of recording and editing. Late nights and early mornings, and of course, a well executed delivery strategy.
Obviously there was a lot more to it than that, but that’s a few of the cogs in the wheel that helped us reach that specific success.
In this podcast (also recorded as a tutorial), I run through four key areas of the planning stage:
- Planning and framing
- Product, or service
- You
- Capital
Here are a few of the tools that I mentioned:
- MindMeister
- Lucidchart
- Draw .IO
Here are a few of the tools that I didn’t mention, but are also totally awesome:
- Asana
- MeisterTask
- Trello
Now get out there and get planning!
